BIXTEP depends on XMLStarlet. You need to install this tool (preferably with your distribution's package managing software) before using BIXTEP.

BIXTEP itself does not require any installation. All you have to do is download and unpack the archive. Then make the main script executable:

chmod +x bixtep.sh

Most Linux distributions use Bash as the default shell. If you are using Ubuntu 6.10 or later, your default shell is Dash. In this case you cannot start BIXTEP using the “sh” command. See the Getting Started guide for additional instructions.
